Polarised Sunglasses at City Optics
Polarised lenses carry a built-in filter that screens out the harsh horizontal glare bouncing off flat surfaces like wet bitumen, water and car bonnets. The result is sharper contrast, deeper colour and noticeably less squinting — which is why polarised sunglasses are a favourite for driving, fishing, boating and long days at the beach.
This collection brings together frames that come polarised from the brand, alongside styles we can fit with polarised lenses to your prescription. Browse the full sunglasses range, or jump straight to men’s and women’s styles.

What polarisation actually does
Glare happens when light reflects off a flat surface and scatters in one direction, washing out detail and forcing your eyes to work harder. A polarising filter blocks that scattered light, so you see less whiteout and more of what matters — the road ahead, the fish below the surface, the texture of the snow. Most people notice the difference most behind the wheel and around water.
Polarisation and UV are not the same thing
This is the point worth understanding before you buy. Polarisation controls glare; it does not, on its own, block ultraviolet light. UV protection comes from the lens material and any UV rating, not from the polarising filter. Many lenses offer both, but they are separate features — so for genuine sun protection, look for a pair rated for UV as well as polarised. Our optometry team can confirm exactly what each pair offers.
Ready-made and prescription polarised options
Some frames in this collection are polarised by the manufacturer and ready to wear out of the case. Others are non-polarised frames we can glaze with polarised lenses, including prescription polarised lenses, so you keep the style you love with the glare control you need. Single-vision and multifocal polarised options are both possible — the best way to compare is to talk it through with our team in store.
Choosing polarised for how you spend your time
If you drive a lot, spend weekends on the water, or simply find bright Australian conditions tiring on the eyes, polarised lenses are usually a worthwhile upgrade. One thing to keep in mind: polarised lenses can make some LCD screens and certain car dashboards harder to read at particular angles, which is worth a quick check if you rely on a digital display while driving or flying.
Looking after polarised lenses
Rinse your lenses first to lift away grit, then clean with a microfibre cloth and a lens-friendly spray. Avoid paper towel, tissues and harsh household cleaners, which can scratch coatings and dull the finish over time. Stored in a hard case when not worn, a good polarised pair will keep performing season after season.
Fitting polarised lenses to your prescription
If you already wear glasses, you do not have to choose between clear vision and glare control. We can fit polarised lenses to your prescription across single-vision and multifocal designs, so your sunglasses correct your sight and tame glare in one pair. The simplest path is to choose a frame you like and talk lens options through with our optometry team, who will recommend the right combination of polarisation, tint and UV rating for how you spend your time outdoors.
