Changes in vision, persistent symptoms or concerns after a consultation can sometimes require reassessment. If you remain concerned after seeing us, please contact the store so our team can review what has happened and determine the appropriate next step.
Timing depends on your prescription, selected lenses, frame and current in-store lens availability.
Some lens jobs need extra clinical and lens-lab review, including high-wrap frames, unusual Transitions or tint colours, or requests other providers may describe as not prescriptable. Where suitable, our team can explore available options before you give up on the frame.
If your current frame is still suitable, you may not need to buy a completely new pair of glasses. Our reglaze options are designed to help customers keep frames they already like while saving money.

Real cases from our Penrith clinic
Routine eye examinations can uncover serious problems before a patient realises anything is wrong. Johnson has identified retinal changes requiring urgent specialist assessment, including a suspected retinal detachment discovered during a commercial driver licence examination and new abnormal blood vessel growth affecting a patient’s better-seeing eye.
Both patients were promptly referred for ophthalmological care—one within 24 hours and the other within one week.
The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Changes may sometimes be detected during a comprehensive eye examination before noticeable symptoms develop.
Case 1 · Urgent referral within 24 hours
A patient attended City Optics Penrith for a routine eye examination to renew their commercial driver licence, rather than because of a new eye complaint.
During the retinal examination and imaging, Johnson identified a retinal hole and an area suspicious for retinal detachment in the patient’s right eye. Given the potential threat to their vision, Johnson arranged an emergency referral to the Nepean Hospital Eye Clinic for assessment within 24 hours.
This case demonstrates why a comprehensive eye examination involves more than checking whether someone needs new glasses. Retinal detachments can progress and threaten vision, making prompt specialist assessment essential.
Case 2 · Urgent referral within one week
A patient with a complex retinal history attended City Optics Penrith with substantially reduced vision in one eye. During the assessment, Johnson identified new choroidal neovascularisation in the patient’s better-seeing eye.
This involves abnormal blood vessels developing beneath the retina, where they may leak and damage central vision. Because the patient relied heavily on this eye and had previously received retinal treatment, Johnson arranged an urgent ophthalmology referral within one week.
He also reinforced the importance of ongoing specialist care and appropriate diabetes management. The case highlights the value of monitoring patients with existing retinal disease—even when they have previously received treatment.
