Medicare Support

What Does Bulk-Billed Mean?

For eligible Medicare card holders, City Optics can bill the standard Medicare-covered eye test directly to Medicare, so there is no out-of-pocket consultation fee for the standard eligible eye test.

Eligible Medicare Card Holders

Standard eye tests can be bulk-billed where Medicare eligibility requirements are met. City Optics also bulk-bills OCT scans, retinal photography and visual field testing where clinically indicated.

Recommended Testing Intervals

Many patients are eligible for a routine Medicare-covered eye test every 3 years if under 65, and annually if over 65. If you have eye symptoms, vision changes or an eye health concern, you can book outside those routine intervals.

Contact Lens Consultations

Contact lens consultations are a separate service and may involve a private fee, which our team will explain before proceeding.

Important Medicare Limitations

Medicare covers eligible standard eye tests, but it does not generally pay for contact lens consultations. Contact lens appointments involve extra fitting, lens selection, trial lens assessment, comfort and vision checks, and follow-up advice beyond a standard bulk-billed eye test. If a contact lens consultation is recommended, our team will explain any private fee before proceeding.
