Saline Solution for Contact Lenses

Saline is a simple, gentle salt-water solution for rinsing lenses and cases, and for rinsing lenses after they have been neutralised in a peroxide system, where directed. It matches the salt balance of your tears, so it is comfortable for rinsing.

Saline does not clean or disinfect on its own. Pair it with a multipurpose solution or a hydrogen peroxide system for safe lens care, and order online for delivery across Australia.

What saline is — and isn’t

Saline is a sterile salt-water solution balanced to match your tears, which makes it gentle for rinsing. It contains no disinfecting agents, so it cannot replace your main lens solution and must never be used as your only form of lens care.

When to use saline

Common uses include rinsing debris from a lens, rinsing a storage case, and rinsing lenses after peroxide neutralisation where the system recommends it. Always follow the directions for your specific lenses and solutions, and use fresh saline each time.

Using it safely

Never use saline to disinfect or store lenses overnight on its own, and never rinse or store lenses in tap water or saliva. Do not let the bottle tip touch your fingers, lenses or eye, and replace the bottle by its use-by date.

Pair it with the right disinfectant

For everyday cleaning and disinfection, choose a multipurpose solution or a peroxide system, and see them together in our full contact lens solutions range. If you are unsure what suits your lenses, your optometrist can help.

Round out your routine

Reorder your contact lenses to your current prescription, and browse eye drops for comfort between wears — checking the label to confirm they are suitable for use with lenses in.
